Happy days are here again!
Newsweek magazine proclaims that the recession is over. President Obama is guarded, but optimistic about the economy; however, he is not saying the recession is over. Well, that’s interesting. So the economy is showing signs of recovery from recession because of “stimu-less”? That can’t be. Leftist politicians and political pundits have said that only a small percentage of “stimu-less” money has been distributed. What’s causing the small dip in the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) then [Article - 1. The Recession Is Over | 2. Worst of Recession Over But Growth to be Slow: Rubini | 3. Obama: 'Newsweek' Says Recession Is Over, But I Don't | 4. Recession eases; GDP dip smaller than expected]?
It’s interesting that state-run media, leftist politicians and leftist political talking heads are trying to spin our economy as being on the road to recovery, but wait a minute, even though the recession might be slowing, unemployment will go higher and more businesses will close before everything gets better. Well, that’s comforting news [Article - 1. Recession Worse Than Prior Estimates, Revisions Show (Update1) | 2. The Recession : About 50% Worse than We Thought | 3. Is the recession over? | 4. Five reasons it's too soon to declare the recession over].
So what happens after we recover from the recession? Remember, the U.S. government printed more money to infuse into the economy. Now we have all that money flooding the system. What will happen? Out-of-control inflation will occur. The cost of goods and services will most certainly skyrocket. Interest rates will shoot through the roof and into outer space. Get your wheel barrows ready, folks. Wallets and purses will be obsolete.

When you listen to what Marxist politicians talk about in reference to a public health care “option”, replace “public health care option” with “government-run health care”. Single-payer, nationalized, socialized or universal health care is government-run health care [Article - 1. Single Payer: Why Government-Run Health Care Will Harm Both Patients and Doctors | 2. Canada's ObamaCare Precedent].
Big-government, socio-Marxist politicians know that a public health care “option” will eventually usher in government-controlled health care. However, don’t take my word for it.

At a National Press Club luncheon on July 27, Barney Frank made an hour-long speech in which he said this:
At least Congressman Frank was truthful about his feelings and the feelings of those like him. He’s right…those working in government shouldn’t be helping anybody make money because they don’t have what it takes to run a successful business that would make money [Senate Votes To Privatize Its Failing Restaurants]. All Congressman Frank, his henchmen in U.S. Congress and President Obama have done is misallocate, mismanage and waste the American taxpayer’s money. They also do a good job of enacting laws and regulations that hobble, encumber and destroy business and private enterprise. If you have a business, be thankful that you don’t have any of those useful idiots running it. They would run it into the ground in a heartbeat.
I wonder if Barney “Rubble” Frank and his Marxist buddies will go by those words and butt out of the affairs of business owners and private enterprise. Something tells me that they won’t because they just can help but wield as much influence and control that they can.
Arrogant politicians on Capitol Hill have been given a seat at the head of the table for much too long. Their power and influence has obviously gone to their heads and they longer view themselves as servants of the “people”. It is clear they have felt for some time now that the “people” exist to serve them.
They are so filled with self-importance that they don’t even feel they need to read any legislation that comes to the floor. We must treat such arrogance with the disdain it justifiably deserves. Case in point:
Congressman Conyers, you serve the people of Michigan. Your state is hurting economically and unemployment is high there. That means a large amount of people are uninsured. I wonder how they would feel if they learned that your remarks were in reference to one of the most important bills that has been presented to the U.S. House of Representatives in years. The passage of a health care reform bill requires serious consideration and decision-making ability. Any health care reform legislation that is written into law will affect and change each and every American citizen’s life.
One would think that Conyers would set aside his obvious feelings of hostility toward his political opponents and indifference toward H.R. 3200 – America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 and do his job as a servant of the people by READING THE BILL. Even if it takes a team of fifty people twenty-four hours a day for a whole month to read and analyze the bill, it should be read and analyzed.
It is evident that Congressman Conyers doesn’t care about the people of Michigan or for that matter, the people of the United States. He seems to be more concerned about luncheons, parties, functions, possibly tee time at the country club(?) than actually doing what he was elected to do. Mr. Conyers is a typical career politician.
Those are the words of Cambridge policewoman Kelly King (who happens to be black) to a CNN reporter. Officer King’s comments start at about 1:15 into the video (sorry, it doesn’t seem to want to embed), the money quote above is at about 1:50.
For my money, Officer King seems to be an intelligent, well spoken lady, which makes it a Bad Thing that His Obamaness has apparently forfeited her support just because he felt to comment on something that, as Officer King says, he should have recused himself from (for those mis-educated in public schools, to recuse oneself means to stay out of the middle of something.
Maybe Mr. Obama should learn to keep his mouth shut from time to time.
The Car Allowance Rebate System (C.A.R.S.) or “Cash for Clunkers” seems like a good deal, but there are always catches to everything. There is no such thing as a “free lunch” [Article - 1. What is the Car Allowance Rebate System? | 2. Tax Break for New “Cash for Clunkers” Program: Do You Qualify for Auto Consumer Stimulus Tax Credit?].
Besides enabling the use of taxpayer money to help fund other peoples’ purchases, C.A.R.S. or “Cash for Clunkers” also hurts charities that depend upon donations of vehicles [Article - "Cash for Clunkers" Worries Charity Groups]. On top of that, not everybody qualifies for the program. An estimated 150,000 people will only be able to participate. So if you think you can just go out and qualify for the funds and get yourself a decent, economical automobile, think again [Article - 1. Cash for Clunkers: What You Need to Know | 2. Will a Cash-for-Clunkers Program Work?]. No, you will not be able to get a fancy sports car or SUV, if it doesn’t meet the requirements of the program.
Just like any other government program, “Cash for Clunkers” is hyped-up more than is advertised. Don’t be lured into the false assumption that anybody off of the street can get government money for an automobile purchase. Alternatives to C.A.R.S. are to just sell and/or trade your old vehicle the old-fashioned way or if you don’t want another vehicle and just want to unload your old auto, why not donate it to a worthwhile cause [Article - Donate your car: An alternative to "Cash for Clunkers"]?
I’m sure most people who haven’t been living under a rock for the last decade or so have heard former President Bush being derided as a “cowboy.” (If memory serves, they flung the same accusation at Reagan, though not at the elder Bush… but I could be wrong.)
So, it’s interesting to see this translation of an editorial from an Iranian newspaper whose editor is appointed directly by the Supreme Leader:
What punishments they threaten are to persuade Iran to come to the negotiation table, not in order to punish Iran after eventual failure of negotiations which they themselves know is neither realistic nor effective. For now the situation is this: that the Americans in a very impolite way and like uncivilized cowboys beg Iran to negotiate. Their imperialist nature has not yet taught them that begging someone to negotiate with has its own ways and shouting and screaming in a state of emergency can’t be interpreted as a sign of strength. The final and returning point is…that they have no strategy, but only beg to negotiate. After the elections they for a couple of days wanted to speculate that something had changed in Iran and that they should use a different method, but not much time had passed after which they found out that the governments in Iran only execute the decisions of the Leader…
I guess Obama’s attempt to be the anti-cowboy anti-Bush really isn’t working all that well. Kinda like the rest of his agenda.
President Obama stated that “victory is not our goal” in Afghanistan:
I guess victory wasn’t the goal in Iraq, either. Oh I forgot, you weren’t responsible for that victory, Mr. President. You just have to tie up loose ends, that’s all. Excluding Iraq, I guess victory is not the goal anywhere there are “overseas contingency operations” (global war on terror). According to the esteemed savior of the world and exalted potentate, “god” (with a small “g”) Barack Obama, victory is reserved for when American forces are triumphant over enemy forces originating from and/or representing aggressor nations. Just like when the Japanese Empire and Emperor Hirohito signed the documents of surrender before General MacArthur on the U.S.S. Missouri. Okie dokie, gotcha!
First of all, this is a slap in the face to all American military personnel everywhere. If we aren’t in the fight to win, what are we in it for? To sort of win? To achieve a stalemate? To slap the enemy on the hand and tell them never to start any more trouble? To place handcuffs on them and throw them in a holding cell for a “time out”? If you’re not going to call it “victory”, Mr. President, what are you going to call it? A successful overseas intervention?
Second of all, no matter how leftist politicians and armchair generals choose to label it, we are still at war with evil extremist Islamists who want to kill us. They do not want to sit down and talk to anybody who is an American. They don’t want to hold hands and sing “Kumbaya”. They don’t want to sit down and drink a beer with any of us (it’s against their religious beliefs, anyway). This isn’t a counseling session or intervention—quit treating it like one. The only way to deal with aggressive, evil, murdering, cowardly, homicidal, tyrannical organizations and governments is to defeat them. For Al Qaeda and the Taliban, their defeat would be achieved only through military force, after which victory would be realized.
Thirdly, leftists in the United States like to brandish the articles of the Geneva Convention and assign the rights of U.S. citizens to murderous Islamist thugs when it is convenient and efficacious to do so. President Obama has officially recognized Al Qaeda and the Taliban as organizations that do not rightly have a country of origin and that aren’t representing an aggressor nation. As a matter of fact, if one looks at the articles of the Geneva Convention, one will not be able to find any signatories for Al Qaeda or the Taliban anywhere in that particular documentation. Nor will one find representatives for Hezbollah, Hamas or the Palestinian Liberation Organization. Are we to assume that the Geneva Convention never applied to Al Qaeda and the Taliban in the first place? Does this mean U.S. soldiers no longer have to read Miranda rights to the filthy scum? Can we now dispense with the formalities of a trial and execute them as enemy combatants, instead of sentencing them to lifelong prison terms, which incidentally would be funded by the American taxpayer?
Something tells me that as long as we have feel-good, politically-correct leftists with a “new world order” mentality in positions of power, ice cream will be served in hell before that will ever happen.
By the way President Obama, consult with your revisionist history friends and get your facts straight:
The Japanese foreign minister and the Japanese military’s chief of staff both signed the official documents of surrender aboard the battleship U.S.S. Missouri on September 2, 1945, not Emperor Hirohito. Consider this your “teachable moment”, courtesy of ACW. However, a stick-on bronze star will be applied to the back of your left hand for getting the MacArthur part right [Reference - 1. Japan surrenders | 2. Formal Surrender of Japan, 2 September 1945].
As of this day, Sarah Palin is officially not Alaska’s governor. Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell was sworn in as Alaska’s new governor. She had some words of warning about the direction the United States government is headed toward and also had some parting shots for the state-run media [Article - Sarah Palin Steps Down, Sean Parnell Sworn in as Governor of Alaska].
The past year has not been kind to former Governor Palin. Palin and her family had been the objects of increased fabricated, vicious, hateful, vitriolic, disgraceful and venomous leftist attacks and smear campaigns, only spurred on further by a frenzied, panicked state-run media.
Some say Palin is finished politically, she’s a quitter, she’s thin-skinned, she’s a whiner and she couldn’t take the pressure that was brought to bear upon her and her family. That may be, no thanks to the state-run media, leftist “comedians” and other so-called “entertainers” and dirt-digging, “gauchenista” (look it up in our terms and definitions) smear organizations. The financial burden of false and yet-to-be-proven charges against Palin (20 of them to date) was too much for her finances and those of State of Alaska to take, so she decided to resign, instead of becoming an increasing financial liability to state government legal resources and to give her family some peace of mind. I doubt that she or her family will really get back to a semblance of normalcy. Mrs. Palin is obviously an enormous threat to leftists everywhere in the US of A. The only way they can figure, to make sure she is completely out of the picture politically, they must destroy her. If her family happens to be in the way, it’s collateral damage.
Gee, I can think of one prominent political figure who regularly complains about one certain media outlet in particular and its treatment of him. He seems a little touchy when people joke about his appearance. He told the press to lay off of his wife, so he got a pass. He is now feeling the pressure from the state-run media and stress cracks are starting to show. He is not getting his way politically and has resorted to throwing tantrums. He is blaming his opposition for attempting to destroy his presidency and for a $1.3 trillion dollar deficit that he says he inherited, when in all actuality the deficit he inherited was less than half that much. He continues to whine about talk radio hosts and again, another particular media outlet for not giving him a fair shake. Yes, I’m speaking about then presidential candidate and now the esteemed savior of the world and exalted potentate, “god” (with a small “g”) Barack Hussein Obama. If he had faced half of what Sarah Palin had to withstand and is still enduring, he would have checked into the federal equivalent of “Sunny Acres” by now.

Unlike GM and Chrysler, Ford Motor Company actually posted a profit for the second quarter of 2009…and they did it without taking a penny of emergency federal bailout money. How did they do it? Reuters reports:
“Ford cut its automotive debt by about $10 billion by using cash and stock to buy back debt in transactions completed in April, lowering annual interest expense by more than $500 million. It raised $1.6 billion through a stock offering in May, which it used mainly for a U.S. union retiree healthcare trust.”
What is this? Ford actually gave free market capitalism a chance? That can’t have possibly worked! This has to be some mistake. Maybe it’s a vast right-wing conspiracy! That’s right, Ford has kept their name, company and executives intact. As a matter of fact, Ford is preparing for a major reversal of fortunes. Reuters continues:
“Ford executives have said the company has enough liquidity to complete a turnaround plan, leaving investors focused on cash preservation and debt reduction.
The automotive business ended June with $21.0 billion in cash and $26.1 billion in debt, compared with $21.3 billion in cash at the end of March and $32.1 billion in debt.
Ford borrowed $23 billion in 2006, secured by most of its remaining assets including its Blue Oval logo, to support its restructuring and now carries a heavier debt load than post-bankruptcy GM and Chrysler.”
There has to be a down side to Ford’s success. Besides, they took losses just like GM and Chrysler. They didn’t fare any better than the government-run automobile manufacturers, so capitalism didn’t really work out all that well for Ford. Oh really? True, Ford suffered at first just like General Motors and Chrysler, but if GM and Chrysler would have taken the same path as Ford did, they would have been a lot better off. As it is, just like any other government venture, GM and Chrysler will suffer through a period of mismanagement and mediocrity. However, Ford appears to be on an upswing, as Reuters goes on to show:
“The company is restructuring to be profitable in a smaller U.S. auto market and to meet expected increased preference for cars over SUVs and pickup trucks.
About 1,000 hourly employees accepted buyouts or early retirement in Ford’s latest offer, leaving the company with about 47,000 hourly workers. Ford had said it is comfortable with that number.
The company is in talks with the United Auto Workers Union on other issues to give it labor cost parity with competitors.
Ford has sold several its Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover brands to raise cash and focus operations. It is also entertaining offers for its Swedish brand Volvo, which would leave it with its Ford, Lincoln and Mercury brands.
Ford Credit, the company’s financing arm, reported net income of $413 million in the quarter compared with a net loss of $1.4 billion a year ago.
Ford shares were up 49 cents or 7.68 percent at $6.87 on Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.” [Press Release - Mark Fields Tells Fox News That Good is not Good Enough for Our Customers]

The Ford Motor Company is the personification of the American dream. To everybody at the Ford Motor Company: The way your company is managed, organized and structured proves to other struggling companies that capitalism works. It proves that American ingenuity and innovation, along with the indomitable American spirit, prevail over the ideas of big-government statism, Marxist collectivism and European socialism. May you continue to prosper and grow, safe in the knowledge that you made it through the rough times without a government handout and without a government takeover. We salute you!

And yet more problems for ObamaCare:
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Health care negotiations among Democratic leaders and conservative so-called Blue Dog Democrats have reached an impasse, according to members of Congress on both sides of the talks.
As a result, Democratic leaders are moving towards bypassing conservatives in their own party and holding a House health care vote over their objections.
The leader of the Blue Dog Democrats is warning his leadership against what he calls a “huge mistake.”
A Democratic House member, who asked not to be quoted directly, predicted there were other moderate Democrats outside the Blue Dogs — members of the New Democrat Coalition — who “would be no votes” if the current bill went to the House floor.
I am beginning to think that ObamaCare is just as DOA as HillaryCare was.
To go a somewhat deeper, this points out a real flaw in the Obamacrats’ (meaning the far-left Democrats, but not necessarily the moderate or conservative “Blue Dog” Democrats) view of the world… they thought that the election of Barack Hussein Obama signalled that the country had veered far to the left. However, if this bill goes down in flames, it will prove that the nation is still pretty much a center-right nation, and that it was primarily discontent with Dubya and the GOP in general that handed Obama the keys to the White House.
This misreading of the American public seems to be endemic among modern leftists… when Bill Clinton was elected, the hard-core leftists made the same mistake, and their grandiose healthcare bill followed the same basic track as the current one has… lots of media hype, lots of attempts to keep the details from getting out to the public… but the details still got out, and the more the public learned, the more the were repelled.
I would hope that the lefties would get the message, if not for two things. First, I know it’s highly unlikely… the lefties are still using the playbook written by Marx, showing that they have no desire (possibly no ability in some cases) to accept new ideas; and second, the lefties’ continual overreaching on the rare occasions they get their hands on the levers of power makes them that much easier to defeat in the next election, and I’d be a fool to wish that advantage away.
It’s almost satire, but alas, it’s true:
It’s not the smell of the interior of a new luxury model, the whiff of gasoline or even the aroma of burning rubber.
It’s much more. It’s the luminous fresh scent from grapefruit and camomile and a mix of geranium, tarragon and cinnamon – plus sweet spice and incense.
Think of “Cadillac, the new fragrance for men.”
Sputtering General Motors Co., just out of a quick drive through bankruptcy court, will soon be using its iconic Cadillac brand to sell a line of fragrance for men.
Maybe they should just stick to, you know, trying to straighten out the car business before branching out, like Ford did?
Helped by a lightened debt load, Ford Motor Co. posted a surprise second-quarter profit of $2.3 billion Thursday, following the worst loss in company history a year earlier. Shares rose 10 percent in morning trading.
The net profit ends a string of four straight quarterly losses for the nation’s second-largest automaker, which has gained U.S. market share at the expense of crosstown rivals Chrysler Group LLC and General Motors Co., both of which spent time under bankruptcy court supervision. Ford last went into the black in the first quarter of 2008, with net profit of $70 million.
However, excluding its debt reduction and other items, Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford would have reported a quarterly loss, though smaller than Wall Street expected.
Chief Financial Officer Lewis Booth said the improved second-quarter results are a sign that the company’s cost cuts and emphasis on new products are paying off. He stuck to Ford’s earlier prediction that it would return to annual profitability in 2011.
“We’re 18 months away, I guess,” he told reporters on Thursday, adding that a full year of profitability hinges on improved auto sales in the U.S. and Europe.
Unlike GM and Chrysler, Ford avoided bankruptcy and government loans, mainly by borrowing or setting up credit lines totaling $23.5 billion in 2006 and 2007 to prepare for an economic downturn. Since then the company has cut costs and rolled out new vehicles, mitigating its sales decline in the worst auto sales market in more than a quarter-century.
But, no, Government Motors is not gonna do sensible stuff like cutting costs, they’re gonna introduce a new product that’s almost certain to be a huge flop.
That’s what happens when the gubment (yes, I misspelled it deliberately) gets involved in business.
This can’t be true! Say it isn’t so! According to a report done by GOP members of the House Committee On Oversight and Government Reform, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), Community Organizations International (COI) or whatever they call themselves these days (for purposes of this posting, it will be ACORN), is being labeled a criminal organization [Article - GOP Congressional Report Accuses ACORN of Political Corruption, Widespread Fraud].
