Ignoring both Democrats and fellow Republicans, Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) is holding to his guns by preventing unemployment benefits extension from going through. The reason? Funding. All that Senator Bunning wants is for funds from unspent stimulus to be used for the benefits extensions.
Statist Senate Democrats, left-wing media, and leftist bloggers are criticising Bunning for the stalling tactic. Evil Republican Jim Bunning is denying the unemployed their benefits. Perhaps they will blame Bunning for killing unemployed Americans? Statists point to Bunning’s silence during the G.W. Bush years of defense spending and tax cuts, which supposedly added to the deficit [Article - 1. Top Democrats look to shame Bunning on unemployment benefits filibuster | 2. Unemployment benefits end today; extension not approved by Senate].
Here’s where the statists are wrong:
1. The Bush tax cuts increased government revenue. How? Employers could afford to hire more people to work. The fewer people unemployed, the more that entitlements are reduced. The more people who were working, the more tax base the government had. The more tax base the government had, the more tax revenue that was collected.
2. Defense spending is a necessary part of the federal budget. The only part of the budget that is larger than defense spending is entitlement spending [Article - Entitlements Crowd Out Defense Spending, and It’s Only Getting Worse]. The statists who hate the military will never understand, nor recognize that fact. This would also explain their ignorant comments on the defense budget. They tried again and again over the years to defund our military out of existence. Their disdain for the country’s servicemen and women is well-documented. None of them can say they are patriotic Americans and that they support the troops while taking their funding away at the same time. That is something two-faced liars do.
3. The issue at hand is not dealing with defense spending or tax cuts. The issue is how to pay for unemployment benefits. The money for stimulus has already been allocated. Why not use some of those funds for unemployment extensions? This garbage about being against the rules should not be a problem for the current Congress and presidential administration, since they have consistently broken the rules over the past year anyway.
4. Nobody would be talking about extending unemployment benefits if the Obama stimulus would have worked in the first place [Article - 1. Shrinking U.S. Labor Force Keeps Unemployment Rate From Rising | 2. Obama: Stimulus Has Saved 2 Million Jobs | 3. The 'Stimulus' Actually Raised Unemployment | 4. In a brazen act of defiance against over 50 percent of the American people, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and her fellow leftist statists in the U.S. House of Representatives passed the monstrosity known as H.R. 3962 – Affordable Health Care for America Act [Article - House passes health care reform bill; Vote garners only one Republican].
The snag in the works was getting so-called “moderate” “Blue Dog” Democrats to vote for the “deficit neutral” bill. How did Pelosi get so-called “Blue Dog” Democrats to vote for passage of the bill? There was certainly some arm-twisting that was done by leftist Democrats and President Obama himself; however, by simply inserting a stipulation known as the “Stupak Amendment“, which limits, but does not eliminate coverage and funding for abortions, that’s all it took for so-called “moderate” Democrats to submit an “up” vote.
Never mind the insertion of items that don’t have anything to do with health care reform and that raise taxes on people whom President Obama promised would not be taxed. Never mind that over 50 percent of Americans do not want a public “option” or in other words, government-run health care [Rasmussen Report - Health Care Reform].
Self-serving, hyper-ambitious politicians on all levels of government do not care about the will of the American people. They do not genuinely care about the health and well-being of the American people. They have proven time and again that they are nothing but a group of haughty, arrogant, elitist power and money grabbers with an aristocratic sense of predestinate entitlement.
The next election cycle is only a year away. A lot can happen in a year and those who want to retain their positions of power will do their best (or worst) to pull the wool over their constituents’ eyes in an effort to get re-elected. They know that the memories of the people they claim to represent are short. They are banking on that knowledge because it is a successful time-tested strategy.
So-called health care reform is only one link in a longer chain of enslavement that leftist bosses are forging for America. They are only a couple of links away from completing that chain. After the chain is complete, it will be almost impossible to break it.
What will you do? Will you vote for or against the chain? The 2010 elections should give us an indication.
Yesterday marked the 20th anniversary of the pulling down of the wall separating East and West Berlin in Germany. For the first time, a German head of state spoke before U.S. Congress. German Chancellor Angela Merkel addressed members of U.S. Congress and one of the subjects Merkel spoke about was the need for a global deal on climate change [Article - Merkel meets with Obama, then talks to Congress]. Perhaps a symbolic appeal by Merkel to tear down the climate change “wall” [Article - The European Experience with Cap and Trade]?
With support for cap and trade legislation on the decline, President Obama vows that the United States will play a prominent role in decreasing global greenhouse gas emissions. Obama’s answer to the climate change question is cap and trade legislation.
The Waxman-Markey bill or rather, Taxman-Malarkey bill (H.R. 2998 – American Clean Energy And Security Act Of 2009) is currently in limbo, since health care reform legislation has taken center stage. Beltway politicians have certainly been working behind the scenes on slipping cap and trade legislation through, with very little public scrutiny…so they hope.
If the United States agrees to comply with some sort of global climate change contract in Copenhagen, Denmark, this will surely embolden leftist environut anti-capitalists in America to get climate change-related cap and trade legislation enacted.
If such a bill goes through, it will destroy the American economy, no ands, ifs or buts about it. We think unemployment is bad now, wait and see how high it will be if cap and trade becomes law. In addition, we and future generations of Americans will pay dearly for the taxes, fees and other costs climate change legislation will incur [Article - Leading Climate Scientist: Cap and Trade Could Ruin US Economy | Reference - Treasury Department – Climate Change Bill Could Cost American Families $1,761 A Year]. With conservative and moderate Republicans and Democrats being opposed to a public “option” being included in any health care (insurance) reform legislation, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has threatened to use reconciliation or the “nuclear” option to ram health care (insurance) reform legislation down America’s collective throat [Article - Reid Threatens 'Nuclear Option' to Pass Health Care Reform as Panel Starts Work].
What’s more, a draft of the U.S. Senate’s health care (insurance) reform legislation will not be available for the public to read and research. So much for transparency [Press Release - 1. Bunning Introduces Transparency Resolution | 2. Bunning: Democrats Are Intent On Keeping Americans In The Dark].
There has been talk of passage of a watered-down bill that would leave the way open for any public “option” amendments or other amendments that would receive stiff opposition if they were inserted in committee [Article - 1. Boehner Decries “Phantom Amendments” Added to Senate Health Care Bill After Committee Vote | 2. The Vapor Bill – Congress’ Secret Plan to Pass Obamacare - Update | 3. New plan might allow Dems to slip public option through Senate].
Go ahead all of you power-hungry, self-serving, leftist politicians—force through legislation that the American people don’t want [Article - Reconciliation 101: A "Nuclear" Abuse of Power]. I’m sure most if not all of you know that you are going to be committing political suicide. You claim to care about the wants and needs of the American people. If you continue to defy the will of the people, with elections coming up, the people will show just how much they care about you.
Ex-Marine David William Hedrick will be running against U.S. Congressman Brian “Teabaggers Are Terrorists” Baird (D-WA) for Baird’s seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. I have no doubt that Congressman Baird is not the only one who has to fear for his political future. Here is a reminder of the disparaging comment made by Congressman Baird regarding those who oppose government-run health care and increased government control of and interference in the lives of the American people:
Here is a video of Mr. Hedrick in his exchange with Congressman Baird: Read More…
As they stand, here are the health care plans that either made it to the U.S. House or U.S. Senate floor or are undergoing alterations in committee:
Quite a few people have read and researched the legislation. They have provided their analyses and have provided information from their analyses in Internet-friendly form. Take your pick from the plethora of links provided below: Read More…
Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA) wants to know what conservatives and TEA party demonstrators really think. She very truly does. As a matter of fact, she thinks the MIA (Media In Absentia) should probe TEA parties, conservative rallies and other functions to seek out and confront people…to find out how racist they really are [Article - Waters: Probe 'birthers and the teabaggers' at rallies for racist views]. This of course stems from the Joe Wilson incident that occurred last week during President Obama’s address to U.S. Congress. Take a listen (still video with audio) to Congresswoman Waters:
As a reminder, Congresswoman Waters’ views on government-run health care opponents are already known; therefore, it is logical to assume that she holds a similar opinion of conservatives as well:
I believe she has a motive behind her madness, folks.
ACORN, President Obama’s “community organizing” agency of choice, in the face of mounting scandals and corruption, have applied for more government funds [Article - ACORN wants another $6 million despite scandals]. In other words, taxpayer money.
ACORN has access to, but may not qualify for over $8 billion dollars of “stimu-less” money [Video - Who in Congress Is Helping ACORN Grow? | Article - 1. ACORN got $53 million in federal funds since 94, now eligible for up to $8 billion more | 2. Biased PolitiFact.com Covers for ACORN, Attacks Michele Bachmann | 3. ACORN's Stimulus].
We’ll find out if somebody in Congress will wise up and think twice before approving any application for funding from ACORN until the organization is thoroughly investigated.
UPDATE: Fellow blog poster CW stole my thunder a little bit [Blog Post - Senate Votes To Cut Off Federal ACORN Funding]. It seems ACORN’s money spigot is temporarily shut off for now.
Well folks, it’s official. With absolutely no consideration of his background or debate on his nomination (thus the cloture vote), Cass Sunstein has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the new director of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs [Article - Cass Sunstein confirmed in 57-40 vote].
Six Republicans voted for Mr. Sunstein’s confirmation [Reference - U.S. Senate Cass R. Sunstein Confirmation Roll Call Vote]. They are:
Sen. Robert Bennett (R-UT)
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN)
Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME)
Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH)
Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH), one of the seven Republicans who voted for cloture on Mr. Sunstein’s nomination, did not vote for Sunstein to be confirmed.
If you want to know more about Cass Sunstein, please refer to this ACW post:
Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) obviously had enough of Obama’s finger-pointing and accusations when he basically called President Obama a liar. Congressman Wilson’s exclamation prompted looks of disgust from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Joe Biden, as well as shouts of “Shame!” from several Democrat members in attendance. To be sure, Wilson will be receiving an abundance of calls and E-mails from infuriated American citizens who support President Obama and/or his agenda. Wilson later apologized for his outburst, but the focus of Wilson’s anger was on what the President was saying all throughout yesterday’s speech to U.S. Congress [Article - Barack Obama health care speech: Republican calls president a liar].
The facts speak for themselves and analyses of H.R. 3200 have been done over the past couple of months. ACW has even posted an analysis of H.R. 3200, referencing page numbers, articles, sections, subsections, etc. [ACW Post - Analysis of H.R. 3200 – America’s Affordable Health Choices Act Of 2009]. Leftist politicians and proponents of government-run health care have played their word games during the health care reform debate by saying that what opponents of government-run health care or the “public option” (now health care co-ops?) have been saying what is in the bill is not in the bill. They have even called their opponents liars. President Obama has been one of those who has called government-run health care opponents liars.
After reading the following linked information, you can judge for yourselves whether Barack Obama is being completely honest with the American people or not: Read More…
While America is distracted by health care reform, cap and trade, “stimu-less”, etc., another Obama nominee slips through the cracks. Cass Sunstein, another radical leftist advisor of Barack Obama, will now go through the Senate confirmation process [Article - Democrats push Cass Sunstein nomination]. A cloture vote was pushed through today and unfortunately, seven Republicans voted “Yea” [Reference - U.S. Senate Cass R. Sunstein Cloture Roll Call Vote]. Those Republicans are:
Sen. Robert Bennett (R-UT)
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)
Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH)
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT)
Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN)
Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME)
Sen. George Voinovich (R-OH)
It is not surprising that Senators Collins and Snowe would vote against their own party’s interests because they have consistently done so. One has to wonder why they even remain Republicans. Although they don’t consistently vote against their own party like Snowe and Collins, Senator Gregg’s and Senator Lugar’s votes are not incredibly surprising. However, it is more alarming that Senators Bennett, Hatch and Voinovich would vote for Mr. Sunstein. I can only venture a guess as to why they voted for the man. Perhaps resulting from sheer ignorance of who Sunstein is?
Okay then, who really is Cass R. Sunstein? Glenn Beck of Fox News gives us some insight: Read More…
I have provided a set of audio and video recordings illustrating the need for a clean sweep of those congressmen and senators in U.S. Congress who deride, stereotype, falsely accuse, criticize and disdainfully repudiate American citizens and who feel that they don’t serve the people, the people serve them.
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-NY)
Leftist politicians and media talking heads are focusing on average American citizens who don’t want increased government control of their everyday lives. They have concentrated their efforts on demonizing those very Americans who don’t want a government takeover of the U.S. health care system. They have enlisted their “community organizing” and special interest groups to intimidate ordinary Americans. So far, they have accused concerned American citizens who are more informed about health care reform legislation than they are, of being organized, while at the same time disorganized, unruly, swastika-carrying, RNC and anti-health care reform lobbyist-funded Nazi mobs and “astroturf”. So much for the caring, compassionate, civil and tolerant left.
Now the Marxist George Soros has thrown his hat into the ring with a huge contribution to Health Care For America Now, a group dedicated to passing Obama’s health care plan [Article - Meet The New Health Czar]. Of course, Soros may be one of the world’s biggest leftist hypocrites. He is a billionaire, ladies and gentlemen. The very type of person that President Obama and the American left is supposed to hate. Soros does not have to worry about his health care because he can afford it, no matter what the cost is. All Mr. Soros cares about himself and the destruction of the United States of America. Mr. Soros is perfectly fine with Americans intimidating other Americans. He is perfectly fine that everything in our country is taken over by the government. To him, it doesn’t matter how we get there as long as we get there.
It’s been brought up here in ACW before, but it bears repeating:
Now I know leftists don’t like it when we throw their own words and actions back in their faces, but freedom of speech as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is for every American, not just a select few. It seems to me that during eight years of George W. Bush, there were a lot of things done in the name of the First Amendment that leftists didn’t appear to have any problems with.
Nancy Pelosi, you mentioned that swastikas were being displayed by “astroturf” at town halls in Colorado. Well, here they are: Read More…
Members of U.S. Congress are frustrated at the attempts of concerned Americans to put a stop to government-run health care. No, those Americans are not opposed to health care reform. They are opposed to a government takeover of our health care system. However, there are many in U.S. Congress who insist that concerned Americans are “swastika-displaying astroturf”.
To add to the contempt some politicians have for the American people, here is what one congressman mentions about anti-government-controlled health care protestors:
I believe Congressman Brian Baird is afraid a “Tim McVeigh” type might just detonate an explosive device at a town hall meeting. That is why he has been scheduling and holding town hall teleconferences, instead of showing up in person. Way to go, Congressman Baird. If somebody starts yelling at you, all you have to do is press “mute”.
An angry response from another congressman: Read More…
