I am sadly disappointed by former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.
For some reason, Frist is promoting forcing people to purchase health insurance, which is the first step down the road to a fully government-run healthcare system. Once you have the threat of fines and/or jail time for not purchasing insurance, it’s not that big a stretch to expanding federal control over the entire system.
This proposal is also essentially anti-freedom. Freedom includes the freedom to make stupid decisions and, yes, face the consequences of those decisions. Dealing with those consequences is one of the best sources of wisdom, which helps keep you from making more stupid decisions. Some people, apparently Frist included, want the entire world to have padded corners so no one ever gets hurt. But that’s not how America became great. America became the wonderful place it is because people took risks, sometimes failing, sometimes succeeding.
C. S. Lewis said it best:
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
It may only be a small part of one of the competing ObamaCare bills, but it’s a victory nonetheless, and I’ll take my victories where and when they occur:
WASHINGTON—The Senate Finance Committee rejected amendments Tuesday that would add a government-run health-insurance plan to the committee’s health-care legislation, but debate over whether to adopt a public plan isn’t expected to end at the committee.
By a 15-8 vote, the committee rejected an amendment sponsored by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D., W.Va.), that would create a public health-insurance option. Under Mr. Rockefeller’s amendment, a government-run plan would inherit Medicare’s network of doctors and hospitals and pay them based on Medicare payment rates for its first two years.
All Republicans on the panel voted against Mr. Rockefeller’s amendment, in addition to five Democrats: Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus of Montana, Bill Nelson of Florida, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas and Thomas Carper of Delaware.
A similar amendment that would create a public plan, but that would pay doctors and hospitals at negotiated rates rather than Medicare rates, was offered by Sen. Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.). It failed by a 13-10 vote, with Messrs. Nelson and Carper voting in favor of it.
Note, please, the GOP did not and does not have the votes to defeat either of these amendments… this is Democrats voting against amendments offered by other Democrats.
In other words, we have an ongoing fight within the Democratic party about this… and that’s gotta be good news for those of us who want this ObamaCare monstrocity defeated!
More indoctrination of our country’s children, this time it’s in Asheville, North Carolina. What’s the excuse now? Was it Black History month?
This was at a PTA meeting, no less. How many parents in attendance were offended? I didn’t hear any background noise in the video, so I assume that parents who were offended didn’t want to take school officials to task in front of their children. They likely waited until after the “show” to calmly and tactfully express their displeasure. At least, I hope that was the case and that they just didn’t sit there passively after their children were finished spreading leftist propaganda.
And now the professional rabble-rousers are themselves being protested:
A group of 30 protesters stood outside a San Diego ACORN office, alerting passerby’s to their discontent with the community organization groups venture into criminal activity.
Since the BigGovernment.com tapes were released a week ago, San Diego Association of Community Organization Reform Now (ACORN) office has been targeted by the County Board of Supervisors, Governor Schwarzenegger and now county taxpayers.
“We have to continue to keep the pressure on this government and stop the corruption before it’s too late,” said protest organizer Lindy Reedy.
The last paragraph, however, is the best:
The group declared the afternoon protest a success as 60 percent of the cars honked and they only got the finger once. “A good day indeed,” Reedy smiled.

President Obama said that Iran has another uranium enrichment facility, which is in clear violation of U.N. resolutions [Article – 1. Iran Reveals Existence of Second Uranium Enrichment Plant | 2. Leaders React to Iran’s Nuclear Facility | 3. Iran’s key nuclear sites].
This is no revelation to those who have been researching and investigating Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Iran has been building up its nuclear program since 1974. The program was in stasis for a few years as a result of the 1979 revolution, but started back up in the 1990s.
The G.W. Bush administration had been ramping up pressure on Iran to cease enriching uranium for the express purpose of producing weapons. However, this was seen by state-run media and leftist politicians as a tactic to divert attention away from Iraq, Afghanistan and the global war on terror. Not surprisingly, their views on Iran have changed, since Obama became President.
What the present leaders of European nations and the United States fail to recognize is that Iran and other nations like it don’t play by the so-called rules. They don’t care about world opinion. They share the same goal, that being world domination, at any cost. There can be a million sanctions against Iran and it won’t stop them in their quest to destroy those who don’t share their world view or their fanatical ideological views [Article – Ahmadinejad: Iran ‘Will Never Negotiate’ Over Nuclear ‘Rights’].

In keeping with the theme of a previous ACW post, video of school children singing the praises of the esteemed ruler, savior of the world, potentate and “god” (with a small “g”) Obama has been released:
I wonder how many more schools are allowing this to happen. Given the dismal condition of America’s public education system, one would think that our country’s schools should be concentrating on actually educating our children, instead of singing songs praising a person who has done nothing to raise the spirits of every American, since he has been inaugurated. Politics should stay out of pre-elementary, elementary, junior high and middle schools, period. There are political science-type classes in high school, but lesson plans of those classes should be neutral in political affiliation and not promote one ideology over another. Read More…
