Obama Helping to Elect More Republicans in 2012

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced Wednesday afternoon that the Obama administration will not allow offshore oil drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico or off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts as part of the next five-year drilling plan, reversing two key policy changes President Obama announced in late March.

Does he really think that $5, $6, $7 or more per gallon for gas will be popular? The old bromide holds that most of those that don’t follow politics on a daily basis (and that’s most people) “vote their back pocket.” That is, if they think that their financial situation is the same or better than it was on Election Day 4 years previous, they’ll keep the same guy in the Oval Office. However, if their financial situation is worse, they’ll go for… dare I say it… Change.

Increasing the bite at the pump might satisfy the enviro-nut inside Mr. Obama, but it sure won’t help him get re-elected, nor help Democrats down-ticket.
