Nancy Pelosi Briefly Hospitalized In Rome

ABCNews:

Update: Rep. Pelosi’s office has since denied ANSA’s report and said it was not a fainting spell.

Original Post at 10:55 AM:

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized in Rome today, according to Italian news agencies.

The ANSA news agency referred to her illness as a “fainting spell” and reports that Pelosi returned to her hotel after a two hour check up at the emergency room.

The former House Speaker was in Italy leading a bipartisan Congressional delegation to celebrate the country’s 150 year anniversary. The California Democrat had to cancel one meeting with the Italian Minister of Defense due to her feeling unwell, but Pelosi still could attend a concert tonight in honor of the celebration.

The U.S. Embassy in Rome is aware of the reports, but had no further comment.

Over the weekend Pelosi and the bipartisan delegation flew to Kabul, Afghanistan to meet with President Hamid Karzai, U.S. troops and military officials.

Update: Nancy Pelosi said she will continue her schedule in Italy today. She tweeted, “Thanks to everyone for your well wishes-had a very productive trip to Afghanistan and am in Italy resuming meetings now.”

Today her office released the following statement: “After several flights yesterday in Afghanistan, and a long flight back to Italy that arrived early this morning, Leader Pelosi was not feeling well. This morning in Rome, the Leader was advised to visit a clinic, and the closest medical facility was a hospital. The Leader is now resuming her schedule in Italy.”

Politics aside, I wish Rep. Pelosi a speedy recovery from whatever ails her.

I wish her health, too, but her staff constantly referring to her as “The Leader” is more than a little spooky.
