Romney Follows Obama’s Lead In Blaming Others For His Own Errors
The news broke today that under RomneyCare, illegal immigrants are eligible for medical care under a program called Free Care, which is pretty self-explanatory.
This would be enough of a problem for Romney, but given how hard he’s been hammering Perry over the college tuition for illegal immigrants issue, it’s doubly dangerous, because now Romney looks like a flaming hypocrite (which he is).
However, the Romney camp quickly trotted out a handy excuse: Blame Deval Patrick!
The Romney campaign was quick to react to the article, and to criticize Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick, who succeeded Romney.
“Federal law requires emergency medical care for illegal immigrants. And if illegal immigrants are getting access to additional healthcare in Massachusetts, it’s liberal Gov. Deval Patrick that has made it easier for them to do so. All of the regulatory activities involving the Health Safety Net Fund, including who could get care, were made long after Mitt Romney left office,” said Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul.
Now, that statement I put in bold type above is the crucial one, because that’s where the lie is. Yes, I said lie.
Thanks to the Internet Wayback Machine, we can go back in time to 2006, when the Governor of Massachusetts was one Mitt Romney (his term was January 2003-January 2007), where we find this page about who’s eligible for Free Care:
Who is eligible for Free Care?
To be eligible for Free Care:
- Your family must have low to moderate income, or extraordinary medical bills beyond your ability to pay.
- You must have little or no health insurance.
- You must be a resident of Massachusetts. Non-residents are not eligible.
- Your citizenship or immigration status does not affect your eligibility.
- People who get MassHealth, EAEDC, CenterCare, Healthy Start, or the Children’s Medical Security Plan (CMSP) are eligible for Free Care for all medically necessary services not covered by these programs.
Again, I’ve listed the crucial point in bold.
So, we can clearly see that these rules were not, in fact, put in by the Deval Patrick administration, but by the Mitt Romney administration.
Therefore, Romney’s camp is promulgating a lie!
However, what’s really interesting here is that Romney is borrowing an old Obama tactic, blame someone else! Of course, Romney is blaming forward in time (his successor) whereas Obama blames backwards in time (his predecessor), but the concept is the same… shift the blame!
Every day, Romney looks more and more like a RINO version of Obama.
