Turns out you can make quite a good living shilling for a theory with a bunch of big holes in it.
As it waits for the resolution of its Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which seeks the outside employment permission records of global warming activist Dr. James Hansen, American Tradition Institute’s Environmental Law Center has received the belatedly filed 2010 public financial disclosure of the renowned director of the NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
ATI obtained Dr. Hansen’s Form SF 278, which is required to be filed annually, also under the Freedom of Information Act. The disclosure revealed that Dr. Hansen received between $236,000 and $1,232,500 in outside income in 2010 relating to his taxpayer-funded employment, which included:
Perhaps Gaia is punishing Texas?
“Some of you here may be folks who actually used to be Republicans but are puzzled by what’s happened to that party, are puzzled by what’s happening to that party. I mean, has anybody been watching the debates lately? You’ve got a governor whose state is on fire denying climate change,” Obama said in San Jose.
Hey, they should be happy to do their part to help lefties feel good about themselves, right?
According to a report released by the aid group Oxfam on Wednesday, more than 20,000 people say they were evicted from their homes here in recent years to make way for a tree plantation run by a British forestry company, emblematic of a global scramble for arable land.
Courtesy Jack Heald:
I’m convinced Earth Day was conceived by tea-sipping western European elites who live in mild climates where nature is a devoted, loving and fertile servant to man. I know better. I spent my childhood in Oklahoma and half my adult life in Texas.
He goes on to explain why… and then close to the end, he brings up some things the lefties probably wish had remained in the memory hole:
From the time I started school until I was in college, Time Magazine ran cover story after cover story warning the world of an impending Global Ice Age. “The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970, amidst a building alarm about the dangers of a new ice age.” All the scientists agreed; it was coming and it was going to be bad. Then sometime in the 80′s “they” decided that Global Warming was the threat du jour. Recently, that has been changed yet again to “Global Climate Change”, (does that phrase have any meaning at all?) In my lifetime, the experts have wrongly predicted every sort of change possible to the environment. Forgive me for being skeptical now.
I can’t say it any better than he did, so I won’t try.
However, I am not sure I believe that the designated hitter rule caused the world to start to go to hell… though I probably agree with him about the artificial turf.
Taking a page out of Ed Driscoll‘s book, let’s juxtapose some news stories, past and present. Ed has posted on a couple of these, but not a couple more, so I’ll take it upon myself to do it.
On the one hand, we have this headline from 2000: Snowfalls Are Now Just A Thing Of The Past.
Sledges, snowmen, snowballs and the excitement of waking to find that the stuff has settled outside are all a rapidly diminishing part of Britain’s culture, as warmer winters – which scientists are attributing to global climate change – produce not only fewer white Christmases, but fewer white Januaries and Februaries.
And then, there’s the recent lefty letter to Santa Claus, warning him that he might have to move:
Dear Santa Claus,
I am writing out of concern, because you may have to move from the North Pole due to the dramatic melting of Arctic sea ice. The Navy’s chief oceanographer says that by the summer of 2020 the North Pole may not have summer ice and other scientists project that an ice-free Arctic is possible as soon as 2012!
Scientists overwhelmingly agree that polar ice is melting because of greenhouse gas pollution and I am working hard to reduce these emissions. But there is probably nothing we can do in time to save the North Pole. I am worried about your safety and your ability to deliver billions of Christmas gifts if the ice cap on the North Pole no longer stays frozen all year. What will happen to your house, your workshop, the elves’ houses and your reindeer barns?
On the other hand, we have Atlanta’s first snowfall since 1882 (that’s over 100 years ago, for the math-challenged), and Columbia, SC having their first snowfall since at least 1887, which is when they started keeping records.
The white Christmas in the South was one for the record books. Columbia,S.C., had its first significant Christmas snow since weather records were first kept in 1887. Atlanta had just over an inch of snow—the first measurable accumulation on Christmas Day since the 1880s.
Snowfalls a thing of the past? Oh, really?
Thousands gathered in Washington, D.C. to protest man-made global warming. Needless to say, they received a very cold reception from the Obama administration and leftist environut politicians.
Looks like a hostile crowd to me.
Note: This is for entertainment purposes. If the likeness of any of these figures resembles any person living, dead, or otherwise, it is purely coincidental. If any snow person (I want to be PC here) is offended by what is presented here, please melt as quickly as possible. If any leftist nut job in defense of defenseless snow people is offended—get a friggin’ life…or better yet, “chill out”!
